A 6-year-old girl passed away after being struck by a vehicle in a West Haven neighborhood on Wednesday evening, prompting an outpouring of grief and community support for her family. The tragic incident occurred around 6:45 PM at the intersection of 2500 W 2550 S, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
Lt. Charles Creager with the Weber County Sheriff's Office reported that a deputy, who was patrolling nearby, came upon the accident scene. The deputy found a vehicle in the roadway and the young girl who had been struck. Immediately, the deputy began rendering aid, including CPR, in an attempt to save the child, Creager said. The girl was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities confirmed on Thursday morning that she died overnight from her injuries.
In the wake of the tragedy, the West Haven community quickly mobilized to support the grieving family. On Thursday afternoon, friends gathered in the neighborhood to place blue and pink ribbons, a visible sign of love and solidarity for the family. Jeanette Zimmerman, a resident who has lived in the West Haven area for 13 years, shared her empathy with the family.
