SALT LAKE CITY — The Delta Center has officially completed the second phase of its extensive renovations, introducing significant upgrades aimed at enhancing the experience for both hockey and basketball fans. These improvements include new seating arrangements, expanded food options, and substantially improved sightlines throughout the arena. The project required a focused and rapid construction effort, with crews working double and triple shifts, including overnight hours, for 143 consecutive days to finalize the transformation.
This substantial update at the Salt Lake City venue is designed to impact event attendees from across Northern Utah, including residents and commuters from Ogden and Weber County who frequent the Delta Center for games and concerts. Jim Olson, SEG president of real estate, highlighted the ambition behind the project. He noted that the renovations aimed to set a new benchmark for modern arenas, remarking that the revamped venue offers an experience unlike any other.
A primary focus of this phase was to bolster the experience for the Utah Mammoth hockey team and its supporters. More than 1,500 seats in the upper bowl now boast full, unobstructed views specifically for Utah Mammoth games, addressing previous sightline challenges. Beyond these dedicated hockey improvements, every seat across the entire arena has received a refresh as part of the comprehensive renovation efforts. Olson underscored the importance of creating a strong home-ice advantage for the Mammoth, mirroring the established home-court advantage for basketball games. He acknowledged that the venue had "some shortcomings" for hockey when the team first arrived, and expressed satisfaction that players and coaches now feel the crowd's energy more directly, enhancing the atmosphere.
The changes have already garnered positive reactions from the Utah Mammoth team. Defenseman MacKenzie Weegar shared his enthusiasm, expressing happiness that fans will soon witness the building's transformation. Head coach André Tourigny described the updated arena as great and fantastic when viewed from the ice, noting its steep and massive appearance. Tourigny conveyed a sense of eager anticipation for the first game, comparing the team's excitement to waiting for gifts on Christmas.
The public will get its first look at the newly renovated sections during the Utah Mammoth’s final preseason game this season. The Mammoth are scheduled to host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday in the updated facility. For those planning future visits, a third phase of Delta Center renovations is already scheduled to commence next summer, indicating ongoing commitments to modernize the venue for continued community enjoyment.
