Moroni, Utah — Talia Casares, a sixth-grade Spanish Dual Language Immersion teacher at Moroni Elementary who was recently named the 2027 Utah Teacher of the Year, has died unexpectedly. The North Sanpete School District announced Casares' passing in a social media post late Monday, just two weeks after she received the prestigious state-wide recognition.
