OGDEN — An Ogden man, who was a juvenile at the time of a deadly shooting last year in western Weber County, has been sentenced to at least a year in prison for his role in the incident. Christian Elias Antonio Ruiz, now 18, was the last of three gunmen to be sentenced in connection with the shooting that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Jesus Cuadras Garcia and injuries to two other individuals.

Ruiz, who was 17 when the incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2025, originally faced a murder charge. This charge was later reduced to manslaughter, a second-degree felony, as part of a plea deal reached in August with the Weber County Attorney's Office. On Monday, Judge Matthew Hansen sentenced Ruiz to one to 15 years' imprisonment for the manslaughter charge, to be served in the Utah State Prison.

Judge Hansen also sentenced Ruiz to zero to five years' imprisonment on two additional counts: felony discharge of a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor, both third-degree felonies. These sentences will run concurrently with each other but consecutively to the manslaughter sentence. Three other charges against Ruiz, including additional counts of felony firearm discharge and weapon possession by a minor, and an obstruction of justice charge, were dismissed.

The shooting took place during a clandestine street-racing competition along 9350 West, just north of 900 South, in rural Weber County. Court documents from the various cases stemming from the incident indicate that a large, boisterous crowd had gathered for the event. The violence escalated when two females began fighting, prompting three individuals—Ruiz, Michael Robles Gaisbauer, and a teen who was 15 years old at the time—to start firing weapons.

According to the narrative detailed in Ruiz's plea deal, he "fired his gun multiple times" during the chaotic event. In a letter written to Judge Hansen before his sentencing, Ruiz expressed remorse for his actions, stating his regret for the victim and the victim's family and his shame over what he did.

Ruiz's sentencing concludes the judicial process for the three primary shooters in the case. Michael Robles Gaisbauer was sentenced in May to one to five years' imprisonment for manslaughter, a third-degree felony. He also received three to five years' imprisonment on each of eight counts of felony discharge of a weapon, a third-degree felony. Those felony discharge terms are set to run concurrently with each other but consecutively to the manslaughter sentence.

The third gunman, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, was sentenced last April. Adjudicated in Second Juvenile Court in Ogden, he admitted to murder, a first-degree felony, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a second-degree felony. He was sentenced to juvenile detention until he reaches 25 years of age.

Additionally, Eli Keddington of Centerville, who pleaded guilty late last year to attempted obstruction of justice, a third-degree felony, in the case, was sentenced to the time he had already served.
