No. 22 Boise State secured a 37-18 victory over Utah State on Saturday in the inaugural game for both teams as members of the Pac-12 Conference. The game, held in Boise, Idaho, saw the Broncos extend their dominance over the Aggies, marking their 11th consecutive win against Utah State and their 12th straight home victory in the series.
Boise State, now 4-1 on the season, has won four games in a row since a 34-27 loss to then-No. 2 Oregon in their season opener. Following their recent successes, the Broncos have made their season debut in the AP Top 25 rankings. Their strong performance against Utah State contributed to this trend.
Maddux Madsen led the Boise State offense, completing 17 of 21 passes for 244 yards and delivering two touchdowns. Running back Dylan Riley added significantly to the Broncos' scoring efforts, contributing two rushing touchdowns during the game.
The Broncos established an early lead, driving 89 yards in just six plays on their opening possession. This drive concluded with Dylan Riley's 5-yard rushing touchdown, putting Boise State ahead 7-0. Later in the second quarter, Boise State’s defense also contributed to the scoreboard when Jake Ripp returned an interception 21 yards for a touchdown, pushing the score to 28-7.
Utah State, now with a 1-4 record, snapped a five-game skid last Saturday by defeating Troy 21-10. This previous losing streak began with a narrow 25-24 home loss to Boise State in the 2025 regular-season finale. The Aggies' three prior losses this season came against formidable opponents that entered Saturday's play with a combined record of 11-1: Idaho State (4-0), Washington (3-1), and Utah (4-0).
Despite the loss, Utah State did show some offensive flashes. In the second quarter, Javen Jacobs broke free for a 63-yard gain. Two plays later, Jacobs caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Grady Brosterhous. As time expired in the first half, Kian Afrookhte successfully kicked a 28-yard field goal, bringing the halftime score to 28-10.
Historically, Boise State holds a significant advantage over Utah State, leading the all-time series 26-5. Within conference play, which has included stints in the Big West Conference, Western Athletic Conference, and the Mountain West Conference, Boise State's record against Utah State stands at 23-2.
The Broncos maintain an impressive record when they reach a certain scoring threshold, having won 90 consecutive games when they score 35 or more points. This streak dates back to a 36-35 home loss to TCU on November 12, 2011.
Looking ahead, Utah State is scheduled to host Washington State this coming Friday. Boise State will travel to play Fresno State next Saturday.
